Interview of the month
WECAN China : The Leading Neutral Master Loader and Airfreight Consolidator

During the recent NAP conference in Mykonos, we had the opportunity to talk to many of the members including John Jiang director of overseas network development of the Chinese airfreight specialist WECAN China. He talked about the company and its plans and ambitions for the future and how he was really enjoying the networking opportunities of the OPENAP meeting.

WECAN international freight company Ltd is one of the largest airfreight master loaders and consolidators in China.

Please describe briefly the background and current activities of the company.

“WECAN CHINA was established in 2003 by Mr Irwin Xu and since that time has developed into one of the most successful operators in this field. WECAN is basically a simple company whose task is to sell space and rates to the network, we try to make them heroes at their destinations. During 2018 our revenue was over $400 million, generating 180 million kilos. We also won the prestigious award -CIFA-the China International freight forwarder Association. Our company is number seven in export airfreight from China worldwide”.

The company works in several different airfreight sectors, would you tell us about these?

“WECAN is a class A, CATA and customs broker and we are an IATA cargo agent, consolidator, GSA, major trade lane specialist and neutral master loader. We are also GSA for three top airlines- China Eastern airline, China Southern airline and air China”.

Can you tell us about any outstanding projects handled recently?

“We were appointed as airfreight service provider for several big international brands such as Amazon and Pratt and Whitney but our main aim in a turbulent market is to survive successfully in the Chinese marketplace and to support our network and hopefully win more awards.”

“ NAP is a very strong and solid airfreight organisation and we feel honoured to be part of the group and collaborating with professional colleagues who are local heroes. ”

As a member of NAP, what are the main benefits of the network?

“This is a very strong and solid airfreight organisation and we feel honoured to be part of the group and collaborating with professional colleagues who are local heroes. We have seen how hard everyone works especially during the conference and I believe that this is the key that makes NAP a global success. Most of the members are our customers or potential customers for the future and on our side these members help us in terms of handling operations and more. I feel very comfortable doing business within such a solid financially sound organisation.”
