CCL Market Leaders in Gateway Customs Clearance and eCommerce Logistics

CCL is a London Heathrow based e-commerce specialist providing gateway logistic services into and out of the UK and Eurozone. World cargo vision talks to Rudee Bertie, director and co-founder of the company and an enthusiastic exponent of high-tech solutions.

Massive changes in the way that the air Logistics industry has evolved, have resulted in a technology dominated industry where e-commerce is taking an increasing market share. So that this new industry can develop and flourish, specialists have developed high-technology methods and solutions in order to achieve the results demanded by online e-tailers’ customers worldwide.

CCL was set up in 1999 to handle gateway customs clearance and delivery for businesses including global mailing, couriers, distribution businesses and freight forwarders.

Please tell us about how the company started and developed to where you are today?

“Brian Kelly and myself set up CCL to handle gateway Customs clearance and delivery for businesses including global mailing, couriers, distribution businesses and freight forwarders. But thanks to the E commerce revolution, we are now handling B2B and B2C packages with efficiency and accuracy benefiting from our advanced in-house IT technology and digital payment system, collecting value-added tax from across the globe”.

How important is technology to the successful running of your business?

“This kind of business depends heavily on technology and the use of social media which is vital to our business development. In fact, we have dedicated teams to work on IT development and social media activities and has proved to be really successful for us”.

How many employees do you have?

“At present we have 40 employees with offices in London and Shanghai and together we processed 44.5 million parcels in 2018 and this year is shaping up quite well. Also we are the IATA accredited agent and customs authorised external temporary storage facility operator. Meanwhile, CCL is operating a low value bulk imports (LVBI) declaration licence to be able to declare low value B2C shipment in bulk”.

Describe any special projects which your company has handled recently.

“Over the last few months, CCL have a trading record for over £500,000 with DPD Express, one of the final mile service providers, for the domestic, offshore and international services. We have also handled the inbound project for AliBaba e-commerce into UK and EU and reverse logistics.
We had an e-commerce inbound project with DHL Global Mail and reverse logistics as well as an inbound project with GeoPost e-commerce into UK and EU and reverse logistics”.

What are your goals and expansion plans for the next five years?

“We plan to continue to be the market leader in gateway a commercial logistics and to expand globally through strategic partnerships and acquisitions”.

Talking of strategic partnerships, how does being a member of NAP fit in with your plans?

“We believe that NAP is a premier global platform for various specialists in air cargo and supply chain service providers to promote and launch new products and services and to interact with partners and vendors. Just It’s a perfect platform to not only show and launch new products and services but to interact with potential partners and vendors. I believe that it inspires companies to increase productivity, boost efficiency and to acquire extensive knowledge from other members who are all experts in their field. Also the various meetings and get-togethers which they organise, provide an excellent networking and social and partnership occasions, it is a thoroughly worthwhile organisation”.
